Sometimes I contemplate moving to Joburg. This is usually after a whirlwind 48-hour weekend with friends and dinner in Parkhurst and a freezo from Baristas in Illovo and then falling asleep on the Guatrain. It’s fantastic.
Then I have friends visit me from Joburg and they are too scared to walk from the street parking to the restaurant in case they get mugged. This is when I usually think they are crazy and need to calm the hell down. But then I see videos like this and I understand.
That’s Jacqui O’Sullivan, Telkom’s executive manager, and a guy with a gun following her into her house.
The guys actually had the audacity to drive their BMW into her gate to stop it from closing. Then one guy gets out the car and runs onto the property, holding a gun.
**SPOILER ALERT – The dog is fine**
O’Sullivan had a first break-in 18 months ago, after which she equipped all her staff with panic buttons. Thankfully the handyman at the house saw the robbery taking place and pressed his button which set off the house alarm.
Be vigilant, kids.
If the robbery was posted on OurHood, the entire neighbourhood would have received an SMS immediately, notifying them of the crime.
The only way to fight crime together is with a connected neighbourhood. OurHood is building a safer, stronger South Africa with their new platform available on desktop and app. Go to ourhood.co.za and sign up now to communicate in real time with your real neighbours.
