It has been a relatively quiet affair of late in the ongoing Oscar Pistorius saga but things are about to get heated once more.
The Correctional Services Department has recommended that Oscar be released on probation as early as August 21, a full three months before the State’s appeal is to be heard. The former Olympic athlete is currently serving time in the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison but might soon be relaxing in the confines of his uncle’s mansion on house arrest. Here’s EWN quoting Correctional Services acting national commissioner Zach Modise:
An application has been made by the case management committee of the Kgosi Mampuru Prison to the Parole Board that Mr Oscar Pistorius should be considered for probation on 21 August of this year.
The Supreme Court of Appeal will hear the State’s appeal against Oscar’s acquittal on murder charges, with the as yet unconfirmed date to be in November. The State will have until mid-August to file their papers with Pistorius and his team having until September to file their response.
Are we set for more Gerrie Nel versus Barry Roux courtroom tussling? If so then we can be sure the case will continue to grab international headlines.
