Saturday saw Beau Biden laid to rest after he lost his battle with brain cancer late last month. Whilst most headlines were grabbed by the cretinous Westboro Baptist Church protesters outside there were more than a few welcome guests in attendance, including President Barack Obama and Coldplay front man Chris Martin.
Chris Martin reportedly volunteered to play at the funeral when he found out that Beau was a big fan, performing a brilliant acoustic cover of the 2005 hit ‘Til Kingdom Come’. We”ll give the final word to Obama who delivered a moving eulogy, quoted here on TIME:
We do not know how long we’ve got here. We don’t know when fate will intervene. We cannot discern God’s plan. What we do know is that with every minute that we’ve got, we can live our lives in a way that takes nothing for granted. We can love deeply. We can help people who need help. We can teach our children what matters. We can pass on empathy and compassion and selflessness. We can teach them to have broad shoulders.”
