Just when you thought you had heard it all…
Sorry to get you riled up so early in the morning on a Friday but Jacob Zuma will be having himself another one of those hearty chuckles he enjoys so much. Along with all office bearers, including the deputy president, ministers, deputy ministers and members of parliament, Zuma will receive a 5% increase on his annual salary. News24 reports:
Zuma’s salary will increase by about R130 000, meaning that he would earn just over R2.7m per year.
As you can imagine this did not sit well with opposition parties, many of whom poked fun at the president in light of the recent furore surrounding Nkandla:
DA leader Mmusi Maimane took a strong stance against the increase…Maimane said that Zuma already received a 100 year advance with the R246m for Nkandla.
The EFF’s Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu also chimed in and said that the country already feeds him, dresses him, pays for his legal fees and even built him a cattle kraal and chicken run.
The FF Plus called for the president’s salary to be reduced to R1.
Not to be outdone, Congress of the People (Cope) also had some choice words, with representative Willie Madisha telling Parliament that around R50 million went to Zuma’s household each month to fund a lavish lifestyle for his family.
I can’t see any of the above bothering JZ one iota but props for trying guys.
