The Shit Is Officially Hitting The Fan As Hawks Launch SA World Cup Bid Probe

Those who involved themselves in the illicit dealings that led to us being awarded the 2010 must be really feeling the heat. Here come the Hawks.

The more the merrier when it comes to investigating the FIFA scandal dominating news around the world.

Now it is the Hawks who have confirmed they have launched a preliminary investigation into that $10 million payment we’ve heard so much about. So what do they have that the FBI and others don’t then? Over to EWN:

The Freedom Front Plus has handed over documents believed to contain information on senior Safa officials during the tournament bid.

The Hawks’s Hangwani Mulaudzi said this is the first time authorities have been asked to probe the saga.

“We are going to open a preliminary investigation in that regard. That will then determine whether we should have a full-blown investigation or not. This is not a formal investigation, it’s just information we have received, which we’re going to go through.”

Many questioned why Danny Jordaan, one of those suspected of being involved in the bribery process, failed to attend yesterday’s press conference which saw Fikile Mbalula and SAFA deny the mounting evidence with a series of strongly-worded statements.
We know that Zuma carries much sway in the dealings of the Hawks and has, in the past, interfered in investigations that may have landed his cronies in hot water. If the Hawks start digging up some real dirt and the FBI get involved, however, it is somewhat harder to imagine Zuma exerting the same influence.
Here’s hoping some day sooner rather than later heads begin to roll and those responsible are actually brought to justice.
