Reports did the rounds yesterday about a building collapsing at Sandton City Mall and, although they were not untrue, it seems they were grossly exaggerated.
Whilst some described the collapse as ‘chaotic’ and others claimed a bridge had collapsed, the story seems far less dramatic. eNCA reports:
…a small piece of ceiling collapsed on a shopper, injuring her ankle.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring the woman was treated at the mall and taken to Medi-Clinic in Sandton for further treatment.
“Sandton Mall is doing renovations and a part of the ceiling inside the mall fell on the woman. She was not badly injured,” said Meiring.

Here’s what the Sandton City Twitter account had to say about the incident:
Riveting stuff. Don’t worry Johannesburg you have overcome such horrors in the past, I have faith you will bounce back.
