Squeal for me piggy, squeal.
The floodgates are set to open in the wake of Chuck Blazer, corrupt former FIFA executive, admitting that he took a number of bribes for securing the hosting rights for World Cups. Sorry Fikile, you bet he called us out, a mere eight hours or so after you bare-face lied to the world.
Now the latest man to start talking is Jack Warner, the disgraced former vice-president who hails from Trinidad and Tobago. Whilst denying any wrongdoing Warner claims to have ‘reams’ of documents that show just how dirty everyone else around him was, including calling out Sepp Blatter by name to say he had evidence linking the president to the scandal. Here’s Sky News:
“I will no longer keep secrets for them who actively seek to destroy the country,” he said.
During the address, Mr Warner, who is one of 14 people indicted on charges of racketeering, fraud and money laundering, said: “I reasonably actually fear for my life.”
He added: “I apologise for not disclosing my knowledge of these events before.”
Not even death will stop the avalanche that is coming,” added Mr Warner, who denies any wrongdoing.
“The die is cast. There can be no turning back. Let the chips fall where they fall.”
So let’s get this straight then and run over a few details. Jack Warner is the man named in the letter sent by SAFA to FIFA to handle their $10 million donation. Chuck Blazer has just come out and said we paid bribes to secure the 2010 World Cup. Jack Warner is saying everyone else is crooked – after being called out BY NAME in the afore-mentioned letter.
Where does this leave us? I think when it all goes tits up for Warner he may be a perfect fit for our new Minister of Sport and Recreation.
