David Beckham – owner of an incredibly gifted right foot, one half of the UK’s most powerful celebrity couple, and a rather angry gentleman right now.
Now Becks has a rather genuine reason for being furious at the actions of FIFA (not that we all don’t) relating to his close involvement with England’s failed bid to host the 2018 World Cup. The tournament was handed to Russia and the means by which they acquired the tournament are now under investigation. His rant here from Sky News:
Some of the things that we now know happened were despicable, unacceptable and awful for the game we love so much.
Whilst it has not been good to read some of the headlines surrounding our sport recently, I hope at last we are now moving in the right direction.
Football is not owned by a few individuals at the top, it belongs to the millions of people around the world who love this sport.
It is time for FIFA to change and we should all welcome it.
Some football pundits are optimistic that the resignation of Blatter may result in a rethink over Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup, but the ship has pretty much sailed on England’s hopes for 2018.
Sorry Becks we feel your pain, but at least you have your $350 million to help you sleep at night.
Also this is for anyone who came here wanting to see pictures of David Beckham in his underwear. You know who you are.
