Would you be shocked if you heard Tinseltown hammed up the promotion of a movie by duping party guests into thinking they were watching an act of police brutality? Probably not, but what if I told you the same about an app launch party?
A gentleman called Jeremy Greene hosted more than 2 000 peeps at his Hollywood Hills mansion on Friday night and took some unusual steps to ramp up the publicity. Here’s Mashable:
The party was well underway when two “cops” rushed in demanding to see Greene, [the social app] PingTank’s CEO. They pulled out tasers and pushed him to the ground. Just as the situation looked like it was about to get out of control, Greene jumped up and rapper Tyga — who was there with [Kylie] Jenner — hopped onto a counter to perform an impromptu four-song set.
In addition to rapper Tyga and fame whore Kylie, there were a string of other public figures including Vine stars like Nash Grier, rapper OT Genasis and Mel B of the Spice Girls.
So what is this PingTank then?
[The app], which allows people to overlay custom animations set to music and sound effects onto their photos, first launched in March, as one of the first third-party apps for Facebook Messenger…
[CEO Greene says] “my real vision for PingTank is to become the monopoly of all the apps. When people on Instagram can use our animations and people on snapchat can use our animations on top of content … we become the content provider for everything in the moving emoticon space for all social media. That’s the end goal.
Dream big amigo, no wonder the launch party was such an event. You can watch that video of Tyga and Kylie and the police publicity stunt below.
