The good news is this is not another beheading video directed by IS, but the bad news is that it shows members of IS beating and torturing 14-year old Ahmed.
The video, secretly filmed by a then member of IS, shows just how radical the group is and how nothing will stop them. Miraculously, Ahmed managed to escape and tells his story.
Initially, Ahmed was duped into planting a bomb for IS militants in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa. The men then took him and the torture began. Hanging Ahmed from the ceiling by his arms, they beat and electrocuted him to get a ‘confession’.
They started lashing me, electrocuting me in order to confess. I told them everything
When they electrocuted me, I used to scream calling for my mother,” he said. “But as soon as I did, [one of the torturers] used to up the voltage even more. ‘Don’t bring your mother in it,’ he used to say.”
Ahmed’s torture lasted two days, after which he was put in prison and sentenced to death. But even in the IS controlled city, miracles can happen. With the help of his executioner, Ahmed managed to escape to Turkey.
The film was allegedly filmed for propaganda purposes, and I would suggest watching it with care.
The man who filmed the video has since defected from IS. Speaking to the BBC, he said that “I am regretting every moment. When I joined IS, I wasn’t convinced of it but I had to. Although I wasn’t particularly heavy-handed with people, I hope that the people I hurt will forgive me”.
IS is known internationally for recruiting young teenagers and children – the group has put an end to “secular education” and instead have “created military-style schools which indoctrinate children and train them to kill”.
