Next time you’re stuck in traffic on your way home after work just sit back, take a deep breath and be thankful that at least you don’t live near an active volcano.
The inhabitants of the tiny southern Japanese island of Kuchinoerabu were ordered to evacuate after Mount Shindake blew its load early Friday morning, the exact moment of which can be seen above. It seems officials aren’t taking the threat lightly and have acted swiftly, with this from the Guardian:
Japan’s meteorological agency raised the alert level to five – the highest on its scale – and ordered the island’s 140 residents to evacuate…
The agency added that pyroclastic flows, dense currents of rock fragments and hot gases from the volcano had reached the island’s north-west shore.
Whilst no casualties have yet been reported, there are still a number of residents unaccounted for. That being said they are aware of the risks of living on the island of Kuchinoerabu, with the volcano having erupted as recently as August of last year.
Pretty decent effort Mount Shindake and I’mma let you finish, but Chile’s Calbuco volcano has the best eruption of 2015.
These images come from the same volcano which erupted again a few days later.
