Nando’s is known for its shock advertising (especially here in SA where it usually gets pulled within 24 hours) but it always gathers enough attention to have done its job well. But did they go a little too far with this tweet?
When Nando’s customer Elle posted on twitter that her chicken was hot, the restaurant chain replied to her, asking if she “can’t handle the heat”. Elle responded to them, saying “I can handle it, I just choose not to actually”.
This is when Nando’s may have overstepped the line…
Well why not DM us your address and we’ll see if we can test that 😉

Cue shocked people on Twitter.
Nando’s has apologised for the tweet, and made a statement to The Telegraph, saying:
We like to have fun with our customers on Twitter and reward our loyal fans. We wanted to send Elle a bottle of hot sauce in response to her tweet, which is where the reference to ‘handling the heat’ comes from. We would never intentionally offend someone and when we realised we may have done so, deleted the tweet. This is not something we would usually do.
