When you have reached the ripe old age of 70 you have seen your fair share of ups and downs, earned some respect from us younger folk and deserve to put your feet up. I think the saying goes ‘oh to do nothing and then rest a while’, which is a motto we could all draw inspiration from.
Good news then for Johannesburg pensioners, with the latest information from financial mayoral committee member Geoffrey Makhubo sure to put a smile on some older, wrinkled dials. Here’s News24:
Pensioners over 70 who own a house worth R2m or less will receive a 100% rebate on their property rates from the City of Johannesburg…
Pensioners who earned less than R7 850 a month would also get a 100% rebate. Those earning more than R7 850, but less than R13 457, would qualify for a 50% rebate.
It wasn’t all roses however as Makhubo also announced that electricity prices would see a 12.19% increase. Some sound logic to the price hike though:
The message we want to convey to our residents is: the less electricity consumers use, the less they pay.
That is some enlightened thinking. I’ve also heard that the more often you suffer load-shedding the less you pay; don’t expect that to slow down any time soon.
If all this talk of property rates and the like has caused you to go a little cross-eyed we have good news for you: If you’d like to wisen up, then join our groundbreaking new property show, in partnership with Pam Golding Properties, Saturday mornings on the Abstract Aimee Show between 10 and 12.
