You’ve heard of Francois Van Coke, Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel, right? They’re all proudly South African and Francois, who is the lead vocalist, songwriter and founding member of both bands is turning heads at the moment.
Last month, he and Karen Zoid released a song and its video, called Toe Vind Ek Jou. Surprisingly, the ballad has climbed the charts, beating international artists to the number one spot.
According to the Kia Top40 SA with iTunes show Saturdays on 947 and KFM, Toe Vind Ek Jou is the first South African release to hit the Number 1 spot this year and the first Afrikaans Number 1.
Of course we took notice of the video – it has had over half a million views. Half a million is a lot of people. It’s five hundred thousand people (coincidentally that’s the same amount of unique readers 2ov gets every month).
It’s impressive.
