Tesla’s new “lithium-ion cell fabrication and battery assembly plant” has been described as a “gigafactory”, meaning that it is huge.
But just how huge, exactly, are we talking?
Someone who deserves thanks sent up a drone which flew around the new Tesla factory that is being built in Nevada (and not just anywhere in Nevada, but in the middle of the back of beyond).
The account that posted the video, “QLC Tech Videos”, posted this to YouTube with the following description:
The first 4k ultra-high-definition video of the Tesla Gigafactory. Located 15 minutes east of Reno, Nevada, the Gigafactory is growing at a steady pace and helping fuel the strong economic recovery in Northern Nevada.
To ensure safety this video was recorded while no workers were present and from over 1 mile away with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional Drone utilizing GPS. The drone was in constant visual contact as well as maintaining an altitude of not more than 400 feet above ground level.
To give you an example of just how freaking huge this place is, you can look at this chart:
Yeah, they build Boeings in the yellow place, and little batteries in the red one. Well, not really “little” – the batteries will be for the Tesla Model 3 electric car and the Tesla Powerwall home energy-storage battery.
