If it is not awards season, then by golly it is tennis season, and I can’t tell you how much I love hosting tennis finals lunches (the Wimbledon final even comes with Coronation Chicken). Sure, watching a ball fly over a net for the Nth time is tedious, but it makes for a relaxing backing track to a nap in the winter sunshine that streams through my windows…
Roland Garros (aka the French Open) has kicked off, and it has caused quite the fuss from Roger Federer.
After his game with Colombian qualifier Alejandro Falla, a young fan ran onto the court.
Roger is less than ecstatic about meeting one of his fans:
All of a sudden he was next to me, I didn’t know who he was. He tried to take a picture and nobody’s reacting, and I realize it’s just some guy out of the crowd. Obviously not one second [am] I’m happy about it. It happened yesterday in the practice, too. It’s just a kid, but then three more kids came. And today on center court where you would think this is a place where nobody can come on, [he] just wanders on and nothing happens. Happened during the finals in ’09 as well for me.
The 2009 French Open saw a man run onto the court during the second set of the men’s final between Federer and Robin Söderling.
They might need to tighten the security, if not to keep crazed fans off the courts then to keep Roger smiling.
