I think we’re all familiar with the ‘Buy One Get One Free’ sale, but how about the ‘Buy One And Change A Child’s Life For The Better’ deal? Has a nice ring to it…
Yes, spending money on the latest fashion trends can often set you back a bit, but one company is putting your money to good use. The team at Sexy Socks recently carried out their first ever ‘Sock Drop’, visiting the Sarah Fox children’s home in Athlone and brightening up the lives of many youngsters.
You see, every time you buy yourself a lekker pair of Sexy Socks you’re doing your good deed for the day. How so? For every pair of Sexy Socks sold, they give a free pair of school socks to a child in need. This mission aims to provide socks – a small but important addition to a child’s school uniform – to every child in South Africa who cannot afford their own.
So how did ‘Sock Drop’ numero uno go down then? It seems everyone came away a winner, with this from founder Dave Hutchison:
The kids were running wild, climbing all over the Sexy Socks team, eyes brimming with excitement and eager for a little attention. As I looked at them, I knew that this is why we started this company. And I knew that we were onto something good. The reaction was almost always the same: a child would sit on our laps, and we’d slip on a pair of socks. They’d look up at us, grin, and jump up laughing before running off to carry on playing…
Whether its giving up an hour of your time to play or giving socks to a sick child without feet to show him that he can do and wear whatever he wants regardless of his disability, life circumstances or illness, the amount of joy it brought was incredible. If you find yourself with some spare time, pop over to Sarah Fox and spend an hour with the children – it is a truly rewarding experience and one which you will never forget.
The next ‘Sock Drop’ will take place at a junior school in Cape Town, something the team seem to be very excited about.
Head on over to Sexy Socks and have a look at their wide range of men’s and women’s socks. There’s a little something for everyone, including those children who are most in need.
