Ah Fikile, it seems you may become entangled in your own web of lies my friend, proving that you really should think before you tweet.
The sports minister came under fire during his Las Vegas jaunt to watch the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao bout earlier this month. He responded aggressively to those who questioned how the trip was funded, sending out a slew of tweets claiming that he funded the trip out of his own pocket. Why then, Mr Mbalula, would you need to tell fibs about when you returned? Here’s News24:
…the sports minister lied on social networking site Twitter about his return date.
According to the department of home affairs entry control, Mbalula was back on South African soil on May 6 at 07:12 – and not on May 4, as he said on Twitter…
Mbalula tweeted on May 4: Some media are asking when do I land from Vegas am already here. @eNCAnewsam not your ringside reporter from #FloydVSPacquiao
But Beeld established through two independent, reliable sources that Mbalula departed on April 30 and only returned on Wednesday May 6. He flew with Emirates Airlines via Dubai.
If the time difference was taken into account, he could have tweeted in the early hours of May 5.
Now a South African politician telling tall tales isn’t exactly shocking, but this is just another feather in the dodgy cap that Mbalula boasts about relentlessly on social media. He has already enjoyed trips to Paris in January and London in late March, the purposes of which remain unknown. Attempts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful.
Keep sending those tweets Fikile, just remember that they serve as something of a running commentary on your whereabouts.
