Quirky scientists and inventors have always proven popular – think Bill Nye, Dexter (the midget cartoon one, not the serial killer) and that really brainy guy from The Big Bang Theory (it’s depressing how many people love that show).
With that in mind, let’s meet Colin Furze, a somewhat eccentric DIY inventor who has a history of putting together some strange contraptions. He first sprung to internet fame for making operational Wolverine claws, later creating a souped-up baby stroller before turning his attention to the humble go kart. This from Mashable:
The “most mental kart ever” — as Furze calls it — runs on diesel and gas, and is capable of hitting a top speed of 60 miles per hour. Furze admits it could be faster, but he wasn’t able to test the claim because he didn’t have enough airstrip to race it on.
I must say this kart does come across as more pleasing on the eye than on the track itself. Perhaps next time he should bring it to Cape Town and kit it out properly – spoilers, rims, sound system and a muffler loud enough to scare all the neighbourhood kids.
