I want to say urban kitesurfing has been going on for quite a while in Milnerton, Cape Town… Have you ever seen those guys get pulled across Marine Drive? It happens, and they often end up quite injured.
But, as with many sports and activities, sometimes it’s the thrill of it all that leads to innovation. Take Kevin Langeree, for example. This Dutch national has put a new perspective on kiteboarding. Whilst usually reserved for the water, Kevin has slightly altered his kiteboarding experiences. This must sound rather vague, so let me explain:
Instead of kiteboarding in the ocean, Kevin uses the canals in Amsterdam.
The Amsterdam adventure was years in the planning, with Langeree living just outside the city and dreaming of the day when he might tackle the canal. [He] is pleased he took the risk, slipping off the back of a scooter and into the water en route to Amsterdam’s Central Station. Before the wind dropped, he stopped, the scooter picked him up again and the stunt was done.
Have a watch as he tackles some miserable weather in the ‘Dam.
He also hopes to set a new height record – to date, he has scaled heights of 23 to 24 meters, but hopes to double or even triple this.
I think I can go way higher, maybe twice the height, who knows maybe even triple the height. I don’t know if it’s possible or if there’s the equipment to make that possible but there’s only one way to find out.
Good luck to this crazy boy. Also, ladies, some eye candy for you:
Hmmm… Who’s starting kiteboarding this winter??
