Lolly Jackson’s Killer Has Died

Well this should be another plot twist in the Lolly Jackson murder trial, should it ever actually get around to starting – one of the key players is dead.

Well this is an unfair twist of fate, although considering he shall no longer be taking up space in prison nor using taxpayers money for medical treatments, it seems slightly okay.

George Louka, the man accused of killing Teazers owner Lolly Jackson, has succumbed to stage four lung cancer inside the Kgosi Mampuru prison hospital. He died at 20h30 last night.

His lawyer, Owen Blumberg, describes Louka’s death as an “absolutely tragic miscarriage of justice” and “unmitigated assault upon his dignity”. Blumberg explains his outrage:

He [Louka] had been taken to a Pretoria hospital feeling particularly ill. He was allegedly ‘stabilised’… and then sent back to a ward at the Pretoria prison where he died this evening.

Would staying at the hospital have helped, I wonder?

Louka had always denied killing Jackson, instead putting the blame on Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir. He had been extradited to South Africa last year to stand trial, and had asked to be sent back to Cyprus in April so that he could die at home, but his request was denied.

All I can think is that Krejcir must be feeling somewhat relieved that an important piece of the puzzle is now lost.
