Will Ripley from CNN has basically been let loose in North Korea and is gathering up info of the closed off nation faster than we can read it. He managed to shed a sliver of light on the education system, and has now been allowed to photograph the inside of an apartment in Pyongyang.
The apartment belongs to a professor at the Kim Il Sung University. It is home to him and his adult children and is 200 square meters in size. Let’s take a walk-through…
That there’s the apartment block. How divine are those wrap-around balconies?
The bedroom is actually bigger than mine so I can’t really fault it, except for the lack of blackout curtains.
The living room leaves a lot to be desired, but at least has a big flat screen telly. The artwork on the walls depicts dead leaders and what looks like certificates and photos of large armies.
The kitchen is… not designed by Poggenpohl, but has a great looking tea set and a two-plate gas hob. As CNN describes it, the dining area is “full of natural light”.
Before you go on judging, let me remind you that the apartment is FREE. The professor also said that it is much larger than the homes of his friends and family.
