As results trickle in from yesterdays General Election in the UK, there have been a few surprises, the biggest one being that there is now going to be a 20-year old in a seat at Westminster.
Mhairi Black, who represents the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) is still a student at Glasgow University (studying politics of course), and she has caused major upset for the Labour Party in the Paisley and Renfrewshire South area, beating Douglas Alexander by almost 6 000 votes.
The last time there was a youngster in this position was in 1667, when 13-year old Christopher Monckton took a seat.
“The people of Scotland are speaking and its time for their voice to be heard at Westminster,” Ms Black said after her shock victory.
On delivering her victory speech, the former first minister of Scotland called her a “star”. She took to Twitter to thank her people:
Whilst that post seems tame, Ms Black does need to work on her social media skills – her campaign was somewhat criticised when she posted about “boozy nights out” and drinking vodka. You can’t have your cake and eat it, doll.
