Natalie Portman sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in April and revealed quite a few interesting facts.
Did you know she is now living in Paris with her ballet dancer husband? Or that she has just finished filming A Tale of Love and Darkness, her directorial debut? Or that Seth claimed her over half a decade ago? She is all over the place at the minute, flying between Paris, LA and Beijing, so maybe it is fair that she sounded a bit jaded in the interview.
She was born in Israel, so had a bit to say about her thoughts and views on Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election as prime minister of Israel (she doesn’t particularly like it). She spoke about what it’s like to be Jewish and living in Paris. She spoke about Star Wars.
Then they chatted about Black Swan, the movie that won her her Oscar. Where is her golden statue, exactly?
I don’t know where it is. I think it’s in the safe or something. I don’t know. I haven’t seen it in a while. I mean, Darren actually said to me something when we were in that whole thing that resonated so deeply. I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshipping false idols. And this is literally like gold men. This is literally worshipping gold idols — if you worship it. That’s why it’s not displayed on the wall. It’s a false idol.
Just put it on the mantlepiece, Nats. You don’t have to pray to it or thank it at every meal.
Her new film, A Tale of Love and Darkness, is a $4 million project filmed in Jerusalem and is now set for sale at Cannes. Good luck to her.
