Oh dear, when it rains it pours doesn’t it Christopher…
Last week saw the shock news that Jayde Panayiotou’s husband Christopher had been taken into police custody as a suspect in his wife’s murder case. Now it seems he may have been engaged in an illicit affair with an employee, as those in the know question his relationship to 26-year-old supermarket manager Chanelle Coutts.
Coutts is said to bear a striking resemblance to Jayde, who was questioned by police ahead of Christopher’s appearance tomorrow in court. This comes after eyewitnesses reported that the two are often seen together around the complex where they worked and are known to be ‘very affectionate’.
These details come off the back of police revealing that the arrest had been part of a huge sting operation, beginning with police planting undercover mourners at Jayde’s funeral. Here’s TimesLive:
At the same time, a bouncer from his pub was concluding a plea deal with police that involved the operation to catch Panayiotou for orchestrating his wife’s killing.
Bouncer Thando Siyoli, who was arrested by police acting on a tip-off, gave detectives a step-by-step recap of the plot. He claimed Panayiotou had paid him to have Jayde killed…
After agreeing to turn state witness and set up the sting, Siyoli is said to have contacted Panayiotou, demanding more money due to the “hype” around the murder. A meeting was set up in Uitenhage on Wednesday and the money was paid over to Siyoli, witnessed by undercover police.
Sounds like they have all the evidence they need to wrap this up pretty quickly. Then again, we’ve seen a fair few trials where the evidence seemed clear cut and the accused has got off lightly so perhaps we shouldn’t be so hasty.
