There is always that one person who tries to ruin the fun for everybody. You remember those times in boarding school, trying to play a prank on someone, and then out of nowhere someone who wasn’t included in on the fun lets slip on the plan. It is devastating.
Much like the news that some of the top five DA leaders have been having a bit of office fun and the news has leaked – an anonymous e-mail campaign accusing Mmusi Maimane and others “of being part of a party sex ring”.
The supposedly female author of the email tells of how the “Mmusi-Athol-John-Gavin-Paul team” are “married men who use their power to manipulate the ascension of women in the party”. It further goes on to say that the reasons behind so few women contesting the DA’s leadership positions is because “there are men in the DA who have made it a special pastime to choose women in the party to be their playthings”.
Claims are either notorious for physically abusing female staffers, or having sexual relations with them in return for party positions.
Maimane, who is furious, said yesterday:
They (allegations) are malicious, evil and intent on damaging me… It’s not coincidental that it comes now.
Yes, the timing is perfect – The DA holds its elective conference in PE in a weeks time, which will see a Maimane vs federal chairman Wilmot James (also from the DA) competition for the party’s leadership position.
Whilst the anonymous emailer names employees involved and incidents, Maimane says that he “has been in contact with [his] staff members and none of them has made any complaints”. He also added that the email is an “insult to women”.
There is always going to be last minute foul play, and quite frankly, w have not seen the “Mmusi-Athol-John-Gavin-Paul team” get thrown out of the National Assembly nor tell DA supporters to attack foreigners or tell locals to pull down historical monuments. What’s one jealous person’s email going to really do?
Even political analyst Professor Steven Friedman says the email should be ignored.
