There’s something inherently enjoyable about when interviews turn into cringe-fests, and they don’t end much more awkwardly than last week’s Robert Downey Junior interview.
The man conducting the interview, British reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, defended himself in the aftermath. He stated that he had cleared that area of questioning with RDJ’s publicists prior to the interview. Iron Man, however, doesn’t seem to agree and didn’t mince his words when describing the incident to shock jock Howard Stern.
Here’s what he had to say, as reported in The Wrap:
[He called the reporter] a “clown,” “syphilitic parasite” and “bottom-feeding muckraker”…
“I just wish I had left sooner,” Downey told Stern. “First of all, I don’t even know the guy’s name, but I know he pulled the same garbage on [Quentin] Tarantino, and Tarantino stayed in his chair and lit him up for five minutes”…
“I’m one of the guys who is always assuming the social, kind of decorum is in play, and that we’re promoting a superhero movie — a lot of kids are going to see it — and this has nothing to do with your creepy, dark agenda…”
You’re a pretty cool dude Robert, but it looks like someone may have forgotten to take their chill pill. He finished with this gem:
…I need to distance myself from this clown, otherwise I’m probably going to put hands on somebody, and then there’s a real story.
A word of advice to Krishnan Guru-Murthy … don’t expect a Christmas card from RDJ and give him a wide berth in any future meetings.
