Heartbreaking Pictures Show Nepal Devastation – Before And After [Images+Video]

Let's all spare a thought for the peace-loving people of Nepal who are currently reeling in the aftermath of a monstrous earthquake. These images show the extent of the damage.

As more news reaches us regarding the ongoing rescue efforts in Nepal the death toll nears 5 000. The havoc wreaked by Saturday’s earthquake is difficult to comprehend, and in addition to those deaths there are over 9 000 injured and over a million children in need of urgent help.

The earthquake, which measured 7,8 on the Richter scale, has reduced many historic buildings to rubble. This includes the Dharhara Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which collapsed with around 180 people inside. Below are the before and afters from satellite footage.

Next is the Tundikhel, one of Kathmandu’s most important landmarks, which is located in the centre of the city.

Another satellite shot shows central Kathmandu once more, the area filling up with tents as people flee the quake.

One Everest climber happened to be filming at the base camp and managed to capture the moment an avalanche, caused by the earthquake, tore down the mountain. Here’s that video, with a warning that there is a healthy dose of foul language.

Hang in there Nepal.
