Well here’s a tragic headline we thankfully don’t see every week.
Sad news coming out of Limpopo as it has been confirmed that a cyclist was attacked by a giraffe and killed in Bela Bela. Guests at the Thabo Monate Game Lodge found the body of Braan Bosse on Sunday, with Colonel Ronel Otto issuing this statement to News24:
“He had gone cycling alone. That area of the lodge is known as a habitat for giraffes,” she said.
“He was allegedly attacked, or trampled, by a giraffe. An inquest docket has been opened and a post mortem would be done later today [Tuesday] to determine the cause of death.”
Those who think this story sounds oddly familiar will remember that two years ago two cyclists were attacked by a giraffe at a nature reserve in Pretoria. Below is the video from that incident.
I suppose this should be a warning to all that when an animal stands around five metres tall we should probably give it a pretty wide berth, especially when riding a bike.
