In news that seems a long time overdue it appears we may see an arrest made shortly in the case of the horrific murders that rocked Stellenbosch earlier this year. It seems some inside information has been leaked and the police are ready to move forward with proceedings.
Past reports have suggested that investigators were hopeful that 16-year-old Marli van Breda, one of only two survivors along with brother Henri, would assist with information regarding the attack once she had sufficiently recovered but this has not been possible. Doctors say she is suffering from retrograde amnesia and cannot recall the attack at all. Here’s EWN:
Over the past few weeks police have only been prepared to say they have made significant progress in the De Zalze murder probe.
But Eikestad News now reports an arrest will be made within the next two weeks.
Investigators have reportedly gathered about 130 pieces of evidence which includes a cellphone belonging to one of the van Bredas.
The other surviving family member, Henri, has also been in the news a great deal and has reportedly been monitored closely by police. Biznews reports:
Henri left for Klerksdorp about two weeks ago and police are said to be monitoring his movements closely…
Neither the police nor extended family will say why the surviving siblings have not been reunited…
Forensic investigation expert Johan Wessels told News24 that one reason investigators may be doing this is because the suspect could be someone close to the family.
Good work Johan, I’m not sure anyone else was looking at that angle. For the sake of all involved let’s hope there is some movement in this case sooner rather than later.
