For anyone that grew up watching The Waterboy or The Wedding Singer I imagine there might be a tiny soft-spot for Adam Sandler and his goofy characters. That affection, however, has taken a beating over the past few years as Sandler continues to churn out absolute bokdrol in cinemas around the world.
The latest uproar surrounding his movie The Ridiculous Six has highlighted just how lowbrow his comedy has become, and if you can sift through all the fart jokes you’re left with what is some rather culturally insensitive material.
For those not in the loop the movie parodies the classic western The Magnificent Seven, although Sandler’s portrayal of American Indians was so offensive that a dozen actors walked off set, including the film’s cultural adviser. Here’s why, taken from Gawker:
The examples of disrespect included Native women’s names such as Beaver’s Breath and No Bra, an actress portraying an Apache woman squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe, and feathers inappropriately positioned on a teepee.
That’s top notch stuff Sandler, you know your audience well. Check out the video above, with some valid points raised around the 1:00 and 3:00 marks.
I don’t know if your momma told you that’s how you should treat other people Adam, but your momma’s wroooooong (heads up – that’s a Waterboy reference).
