Ah, so this is why Donald Trump thinks we’re a dangerous mess…
Now Trump is probably more a fan of Fox News, where the only thing they could do to come across as more anti-Obama would be to have a burning effigy of him playing 24/7 in the corner, but if he did pop onto CNN’s website he would have plenty of ammo against us. Here’s the front page as it stands…
So let’s have a quick read at how one of the world’s most popular news sources is reporting the happenings here at home. Now of course they aren’t wrong about the military, as our Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has sent in help. Here’s CNN:
[She] announced the plan to deploy an undisclosed number of troops to areas where police are spread too thin while trying to curb deadly attacks against immigrants.
“This intervention is not an indictment on the police. … We are coming in because they need that support…”
And what about how this all started then? We get a brief synopsis of the litany of attacks against foreigners, with the article ending as follows:
The attacks came as residents accused immigrants of taking their jobs and committing crimes. The unemployment rate in South Africa is 25%, according to government figures.
The United Nations said the attacks began in March after a labor (sic) dispute between citizens and foreign workers.
A labour dispute? Well that’s probably the most diplomatic description I have heard about the xenophobic attacks.
Interesting to note that nowhere is there any mention of King Goodwill Zwelithini or Edward Zuma fanning the fires.
Bottom line South Africa? The world is watching us at present, and the picture being painted could have far-reaching, detrimental results.
