Sometimes you almost want to high-five those smooth criminals that manage to pull off the most daring heists using an insane amount of planning. The guys that managed to rob the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company in London probably won’t be too popular with those whose jewels were nabbed, but their exploits have quickly become the stuff of legends.
Scotland Yard released some pictures last week of the criminals in action, and now Flying Squad detectives have released the first images from inside the safety deposit boxes that were raided. This picture below shows just intense their efforts were.
That hole measures 50cm deep, 25cm high and 45cm wide and was made using a heavy duty drill they brought along for the ride. Here’s Sky News:
The vault was covered in dust and debris and the floor was strewn with discarded safety deposit boxes and numerous power tools, including an angle grinder, concrete drills and crowbars…
The thieves disabled the communal lift on the second floor and then used the lift shaft to climb down into the basement where the safety deposit business was based.
They forced open shutter doors into the basement and bored holes through the vault wall.
