Now with mobile traffic increasing at an unprecedented rate of knots, some big names are focusing more of their energy on growing their mobile business. Flipkart, India’s Amazon, has seen their mobile traffic increase tenfold over the past 18 months alone and are planning drastic measures to capitalise on this. Here’s Time:
Flipkart, India’s biggest e-commerce company, said on Monday that it plans to shut down its website within a year and transition completely to a mobile app.
“Last year, we had more on the app but still did our web and desktop. In the next year or so, we’re going to be only mobile,” Michael Adnani, Flipkart’s vice president [said]…
When it comes to the numbers alone the decision looks to be a good one. India, the world’s third-largest internet market, believes that of the country’s 2018 projected 550 million users around 80% of those will be mobile. India’s geographical and technological layout plays its part, with Time again:
Two-thirds of Flipkart’s 8 million monthly shipments come from cities and small towns, where most people don’t have access to desktop computers and broadband Internet.
Seems we are destined to see people spending even more time on their phones in the near future. On the plus side, the more time people spend shopping the less time they have to send those ridiculous videos to that Whatsapp group you’ve been too polite to leave even though you haven’t contributed in weeks.
