I have been dreaming about having this on my finger for over a month, and, finally, now is my chance to get it. It’s the world’s largest flawless diamond, and for the sake of her beauty, let’s call her Gloria.
Gloria is a 100.2 carat diamond, in an emerald cut, and the largest of its clarity. She has been on a wondrous world tour through Dubai, London and Hong Kong and is now residing in New York until she finds a new home.
“Simply put, [Gloria] has everything you could ever want from a diamond: the classic shape begs to be worn, while the quality puts it in an asset class of its own,” said Lisa Hubbard, Chairman of North and South America for Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division.
Gary Schuler, the head of Sotheby’s jewellery department in New York, explains how the “classic emerald cut like this one allows for a wide expanse of pure material to be viewed without the distraction of a more complex facet arrangement” and how it looks as though you are “looking at the glimmer of a reflecting pool”.
Gloria is estimated to go for $25million later today at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction. That’s one hell of a lot of boodle to drop on a rock. If you’re looking for something slightly more normal, don’t sweat it – we’ve got just the guy for you at Black Key Diamonds, a place where three carats is not frowned upon.
