MAYHEM: People Are Jumping Out Of Burning Buses In Cape Town

Things became very heated around these parts earlier today as riots broke out and buses were set alight. It isn't pretty Cape Town.

A volatile confrontation in Nyanga this morning saw two Golden Arrow buses being set alight and caused people to flee for their lives.

The police confirmed earlier today that a ‘riotous’ situation had occurred on the corner of two of the township’s main roads. Here’s News24:

The incident followed an operation conducted by Traffic Services where eight taxis were impounded for traffic violations,” Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut [said]…

In addition to the burning there were also reports of stone throwing, causing bus service in the area to be suspended. Other reports seem to suggest  the burning came about as taxi owners protested the impounding of 24 of their vehicles. The pictures below from the Cape Argus Twitter account:

There are also reports that a large delivery vehicle was also set alight. We’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one and let you know as more details emerge.
