I’m starting to think that Instagram doesn’t actually know what it thinks… At first it was no breastfeeding images allowed, then just last week it was made acceptable. Then Chrissy Teigen went and showed everyone her stretch marks and that seemed to go off alright, but then this image happened:
Hannah Moore, a 20-year old mother of twins, posted these to her Instagram with the caption that “nobody should be judged by their size because everyone is beautiful”, and Instagram promptly shut her account down. She claims it was deleted “only two minutes later because the images were deemed to contain inappropriate ‘nudity and violence'”.
She says that since being deleted she now thinks her body is “clearly fat, ugly and disgusting and it made people feel sick”.
Nobody could get on my Instagram and nobody could search for it so someone had obviously reported the picture for nudity and all it was, was a picture of my belly and it has just took my confidence away.
As of last week, the photo-sharing site’s guidelines say: “We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. Photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed.”
Ms Moore didn’t think she was in breach of anything. And she wasn’t, according to Instagram, who have blamed the incident on a “technical glitch” and restored her account.
