Look, South Africa as a whole has a rather good track record for exports in the categories of acting, modelling and singing, so it should only be a short matter of time before these guys get whisked away to far off lands. In the meantime, it’s great to see something local doing such a good job of what they do.
For avid listeners, it will come as no surprise then that Beatenberg, the pop-trio hailing from Cape Town (the land of wonderful things) did well at the SAMA’s. Were we honestly expecting anything else from their Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg album? Er, no. We knew they would win Album of the Year with it. The boys also managed to nab Duo or Group of the Year and Best Pop Album.
That’s three of the biggest awards, all for them. Beatenberg managed to beat (haha) the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Bittereinder and BlackByrd.
When you round up all that SA has music-wise, it really is quite something to be proud of.
