Wow, what a wonderful few days it has been for fans of Star Wars. First they got to pore over every detail from the new trailer for The Force Awakens, and now they can fantasise about the opportunity of climbing inside one of the franchise’s most famous characters.
No, it’s not Princess Leia, her of the tied up hair buns and flowing white robes, who has no doubt been the cause of a mind-numbing amount of awkward erections. Rather, an airline in Japan has painted a Boeing 787 to resemble R2-D2 and they are set to make history. Mashable reports:
According to the airline’s press release, the plane is also a milestone for commercial flight: “This marks the first time a Star Wars character will appear on the exterior of a commercial aircraft,” the company claims.
And the R2-D2 jet is only the beginning. The airline says the new airplane marks the start of a five-year project, which may or may not include more Star Wars-themed aircraft.
Exciting times. Now if they can somehow create a hybrid between the dog car from Dumb and Dumber and a Chewbacca plane we might really be on to something.
