I guess when it rains it pours, hey sheeple of Scientology?
The religion has been under fire ever since the release of the documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, and many wondered just how they would respond to the negative backlash. Well, a little viral video never hurt right?
Now there is a Public Service Announcement (PSA) doing the rounds on Facebook (especially in the US) that has racked up around seven million views on the social networking site alone. The message seems to be a fair one, although the reasons behind the PSA are a little more sinister.
The video was posted by an organisation called Citizens Commission for Human Rights (CCHR), but who are these guys? This from Gawker:
CCHR was not simply founded by the Church of Scientology; it is little more than a front, established by the church to advance and give apparent legitimacy to its own anti-psychiatry agenda. Why see a licensed therapist when you can pour out your troubles to a Scientology auditor instead…
Scientology created a number of subgroups and worksites to promote its goals, including its ideological attacks on psychiatry, which primarily fall under the subgroup called the CCHR…In the context of Scientology, CCHR is an informational and lobby group. It functions under Scientology’s code of ethics and is comprised primarily of Scientologists.
Sneaky guys, although underhanded tactics from your organisation isn’t exactly unexpected these days. Maybe stick to getting Tom Cruise to bounce around on couches proclaiming his undying loyalty to the religion for now, that seemed to work out well last time.
