There has to be something said for those moments in life when, out of the blue, a small and random act of kindness restores your faith in humans and reminds you that deep down somewhere we all have to be nice people. Surely.
There’s a lady in Oklahoma who did just that the other day. 30-year old Ashley Jiron owns P.B. Jams, a peanut butter and jelly (jam, for us Saffas) sandwich place in Warr Acres. She noticed that someone had been going through her dumpsters outside the shop, and she knew immediately what was happening.
I had noticed that some bags and containers with food were emptied and gone through. Immediately, of course, my heart sank, and I knew I needed to do something about it right away.
Jiron went back inside and printed out this note, which she stuck on the door of the restaurant:
She explained that as a single mother of two she often, in the past, had no money for food at the end of the month and could empathise.
Something as simple as even just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is very comforting to somebody and maybe even offer them a few words.
The person hasn’t come in just yet for his or her free meal but Jiron hopes that they will.
Take a little page out of Ashley’s book and do something nice this week for one person. You have no idea the difference it makes to both of you.
