As the full details of the daring heist at London’s Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company come to light, it is becoming clear that these were no amateurs, but rather a well-planned robbery that could net these criminals a pretty penny.
Scotland Yard is now in possession of a 17-minute video (after it was leaked by the Daily Mail) and have released a few snapshots of the thieves in action. Here’s Sky News:
…the group made two separate visits before leaving in a white van on Easter Sunday with the contents of 72 safety deposit boxes in wheelie bins and bags…
A number of men appear wearing high-visibility jackets, hard hats, gloves and dust masks, and carrying orange tool boxes and holdalls. Others in the group are dressed in blue overalls and gloves.
Three men with their faces covered are seen taking wheelie bins in and out of the building. A white van is seen pulling up shortly before 7am on Sunday, the newspaper reported, and once the bins and bags are loaded into it, the group get in and drive away.
Now the thieves were obviously well-prepared, but some of the blame must lie at the feet of a security firm who noticed an alarm being activated but deemed it not worthy of a response. It always helps to have a man on the inside, I guess.
