The dust has barely settled in South Carolina following the murder of Walter Scott by police officer Michael Slager (videos HERE and HERE) and more footage has come to light of a fatal shooting in Florida.
Now as you can see by the time stamp on the above video the shooting took place on February 15, but it is only now that the family of the slain Lavall Hall have released the footage. Vice reports:
Just before 5am on the morning of February 15, Catherine Daniels called authorities in Miami Gardens, Florida for assistance with her son Lavall Hall, who is schizophrenic. Hall was reportedly wielding a broomstick while outside naked, just one week after police had brought him to a mental hospital.
Officers Eddo Trimino and Peter Ehrlich arrived to the scene and attempted to approach the man, as his mother said she asked them not to hurt him. Hall can be seen from one angle fleeing from the cop as Trimino barks orders to get down.
Some graphic language follows and then Trimino fires a total of five shots at Hall, who was hit by two of the shots and killed. His family have now filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
Trimino’s lawyers have defended him by saying that he feared for his life and was justified in firing the shots. I don’t know skilled Hall was with the broomstick he wielded but that seems like something of a stretch if you ask me.
Seriously America, what is going on with your police? It’s a thankless task, sure, but you really aren’t doing yourselves any favours with these senseless killings.
