So what do you do with the rest of your life when your fame has peaked at the age of four months old? You could go the way of Nicole Richie, turn to the hard stuff and eventually become a fame whore. Alternatively, and this way seems to have worked well for 88-year-old Ann Turner Cook, you could keep it a secret and get on getting on.
Cook was just a wee toddler when she won the Gerber baby food competition to find a face for their new ad campaign, although she chose to keep it a secret for most of her adult life. Here’s Huffington Post:
“It’s not an achievement of mine,” Cook says. “It’s the achievement of the artist. Dorothy Hope Smith doesn’t get as much credit as she should”…
For nearly 50 years, Cook’s identity as the Gerber baby was a well-kept secret — and intentionally so, she adds.
“The Gerber company had not wanted publicity, because if the baby was identified as a girl, the little boys would feel like they didn’t have representation,” Cook explains.
“They wanted everyone to be able to identify with the baby as their child.”
I must say it’s a decent claim to fame, but how about this guy for baby fame taking the cake?
Spencer Elden, famed ‘Nevermind’ album cover baby, is now 23. Who’s feeling old now?
