Manny Pacquiao – hero to all in the Philippines, philanthropist, congressman (it’s true, Google it), family man.
Floyd Mayweather Jnr – rich doos with a history of domestic violence.
I’m just going to put it out there, I’m definitely in the Manny camp when it comes to the upcoming bout. Then there’s this, taken from the New York Post:
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, called their May 2 WBC welterweight title fight “good against evil” and admits his fighter’s intense dislike of the undefeated Mayweather stems from Mayweather’s long, well-documented history of domestic violence…
[Mayweather] has been involved in seven instances of alleged physical assault — on five different women — that ended in an arrest or the issue of a citation…
So you’re still sitting firmly in the Mayweather camp? Here’s another gem from the New York Post:
In 2010, Mayweather went on a racist rant, posted on the Internet, in which he called Pacquiao “that little yellow chump” and vowed to get the rival fighter to “make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.”
Now I’m pretty sure there’s nothing that will stop this fight from happening but some reports suggest there are still a few financial aspects to be worked out. SB Nation is reporting that no contract is said to exist between MGM Resorts and the promoters of both boxers, and there has been some back and forth between the two camps over the matter. Here’s Yahoo Sports:
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, said no contract exists between MGM Resorts and the promoters. Asked point blank if the highly anticipated May 2 fight is in jeopardy, Arum told Yahoo Sports, “I don’t know any more. I’ve never been in this area before.”
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, who has been handling negotiations with MGM, said the notion the fight is in jeopardy is ridiculous.
Ellerbe ripped into Arum and said he is just doing his due diligence to make sure the event does as well as possible.
Maybe we should get those two in the ring to get our engines started. Who really cares, as long as Manny delivers a beat down on Mayweather most of us will go to bed happy.
