In what is sure to ruffle some well-groomed feathers the EFF has promised to occupy some rather sought-after land around Cape Town, if their vocal MP Nazier Paulsen is to believed.
As things stand there is a plot in Khayelitsha which has been occupied by around 500 people, with structures being erected and land divided up. The tweet below comes from Paulsen’s Twitter account, which carries this bio: ‘We are no longer at the gates. We are no longer scaling the walls. We are in the palace grounds and we are not here for cake’.
We all know our summers can get mighty steamy so a pool makes decent sense. When quizzed on the occupation Paulsen had the following to say to News24:
I did just what Jan van Riebeeck did – he invaded the land, I occupied it.
Now the part that will really set a few Botox-laced lips moving is this, again from News24:
[Paulsen] promised that the party will also target more affluent areas of Cape Town as they continue occupying vacant land.
Paulsen promised the party will lead communities in taking over land in Bishopscourt, Camps Bay and Rondebosch Common.
At this stage we have yet to see any kind of statement from the Western Cape Police or the City of Cape Town. I’m sure there will be many residents in some of our city’s more affluent areas keeping a close eye on this story.
