There’s been another tragedy in the French Alps, this time due to an avalanche.
The avalanche was in the Alpine Ecrins National Park near the town of Pelvoux. Officials in the Hautes-Alpes prosecutor’s office have said that “three people are dead and about seven others remain unaccounted for” – they were a part of a group of ten hikers.
Rescue parties have been hard at work and include 27 police officers, dogs, 30 firefighters and four helicopters.
The avalanche was a mere 120km north of where Germanwings Flight 9525 went down on March 24th.
According to witnesses, the avalanche was “spectacular”.
With temperatures expected below freezing, let’s keep the rescuers in our thoughts.
