In case you missed the slew of pranks going on all over the interweb yesterday, a gentle reminder that it was April 1st. That makes today April 2nd. Let’s move on.
Now one of the more elaborate pranks generating plenty of buzz (other than our own Presidency’s of course) was Microsoft releasing their MS-DOS app. Yes, they were pulling some legs but the app is real and can still be downloaded. Of course this sent ‘geeks’ into overdrive, with Mashable reporting:
Microsoft’s April Fools’ Day prank has a surprising level of detail, down to the sound effects, “bad command” notifications and a few other Easter eggs.
Some screenshots for old time’s sake? Go on then.
Type in your various commands and launch the appropriate app. Typing in ‘Internet’, for example, launches the IE app after some old school dial up tones. Yes, the ones that made you smother the modem with a pillow when popping on late at night for research purposes.
In case you enjoy dabbling in a selfie but all those megapixels on the new camera tend to show some wrinkles, we give you the camera.
It isn’t exactly my idea of fun but to each their own right? If the app teaches us anything maybe it should be how thankful we are that we live in a time where connecting to the internet doesn’t involve a series of robotic-like noises – it helps keep those late night ‘Groupon shopping missions’ somewhat clandestine.
