Back when she was nine years old, little Sofia from Massachusetts wrote a letter to Obama, asking him why there are no women on any US currency. Fair question, me thinks. Sofia’s letter also contained a list of who she thought deserved to be on the notes and coins.
Months went past with no word from the president, but one day her father realised Obama had mentioned the letter in a speech. Sofia says “I was really excited about it, because I thought that maybe it would actually happen”.
Finally, in February, Sofia received a reply:
I make no secret of the fact that I have a school-girl crush on ol’ Barack, and this just adds to it.
In the meantime, Sofia’s letter has gathered a lot of movement. Read about W20 HERE – the project to get a women on the $20 bill.
