When I think of McLaren, I think fast cars and race tracks and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
You know you wouldn’t say no to one…
But what if you actually wanted to drive a McLaren, because, let’s face it, no one is ever going to give you one (and the price tag of over $400 000 is a bit off putting).
Lucky for us, McLaren has launched their 570S supercar. It is “set to compete with cars such as the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo”. Also, the price is far more reasonable, at $180 000.
The car was first shown off to press behind closed doors back in January. McLaren reportedly banned photos of the car at the event, but some have surfaced, showing sleek bodywork, wasp-ish headlights, and the kind of gullwing doors that make the “budget” supercar look like its bigger brother, the legendary McLaren F1.
Sneaky.
It’s got a V8 engine and is one second faster than the Porsche 911 S, according to Bloomberg Business.
The CEO of McLaren, Mike Flewitt, says that double-digit growth for the company could be expected “as the new, more affordable model makes McLaren an option to the rich, as well as the super-rich”.
